13 April 2025
We are pleased to announce that our iconic Lion Rock Tunnel project has been honoured with a Merit Award in the Infrastructure category (1970s) as part of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) 50th Anniversary Legacy Awards.
Lion Rock Tunnel: A Milestone in Connectivity
The Lion Rock Tunnel project is Hong Kong’s first road tunnel connecting Kowloon and Sha Tin. Completed in 1964, the first tunnel was constructed using a jumbo tunnelling machine and 150 tons of explosives, with a diameter of 10.5 meters. This tunnel significantly reduced the distance between Kowloon and the New Territories, playing a crucial role in driving overall economic development.
