Bouygues Travaux Publics (Hong Kong Branch), in a joint venture with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and VSL Hong Kong Limited, has been awarded the Hong Kong East Drainage Tunnel (HKEDT) works contract, valued at approximately HK$2,156 million, by the Drainage Services Department (DSD) of the HKSAR Government.

The contract signing ceremony was held on the 18th August 2026 at the Drainage Services Tower, officiated by representatives from the DSD and the joint venture partners. Guests included The Director of Drainage Services, Mr. Ringo MOK Wing-cheong , the Chief Engineer/Project Management, Ms. Carol HO Ka-yee of the DSD, the Head of Hong Kong Branch, Mr. IU Pak Wei Patrick, the Deputy Technical Director, Mr. CHEUNG Hang Shan of Bouygues Travaux Publics, the Chairman & Managing Director, Mr. WANG Yanhua, the General Manager, Mr. LIU Hailong of China Road and Bridge Corporation, the Area Director, Mr. HASLE Ronan Jean Louis and the General Manager, Mr. CHAN Ping Cheung of VSL Hong Kong Limited.

The project forms part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance Hong Kong’s flood prevention infrastructure and strengthen the city’s resilience against increasingly frequent extreme weather events. The works comprise the construction of a 3.6-kilometre-long drainage tunnel with a diameter of approximately 5m, extending from Shau Kei Wan and Chai Wan to Pak Sha Wan, together with seven intake structures, six connection adits, an outfall structure and associated ancillary works. The project is expected to be completed by 2030.

Upon completion, the tunnel will intercept and divert stormwater collected from upstream catchments directly to Pak Sha Wan, relieving pressure on the existing downstream drainage network and reducing the risk of flooding in Eastern District.
