BYTP wins new water tunnel contract of Inter-reservoirs Transfer Scheme

28 February 2019

The Bouygues Construction Group, through Bouygues Travaux Publics in Hong Kong, has received the award of contract from Drainage Services Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government, to build a fresh water transfer tunnel for the Inter-reservoirs Transfer Scheme in Kowloon. The value of the contract is HK$763 million.

This project will comprise the construction of a tunnel of approximately 2.8km long with a 3-metre diameter from the Kowloon Byewash Reservoir to the Lower Shing Mun Reservoir, and the associated intake and outfall structures at both ends of the tunnel. When completed in 2022, the tunnel will serve dual objectives of improving flood protection level in West Kowloon areas and optimising water conservation, by transferring collected surface runoff from the Kowloon group of reservoirs to the Lower Shing Mun Reservoir. In the long run, this tunnel will strengthen the city’s resilience in flood mitigation to combat climate change.

The worksite will be located at the tranquil Kam Shan Country Park. Meticulous project planning will have to be executed to ensure a smooth flow of all construction activities, also to conserve the precious natural environment.
