East Tsing Yi Viaduct

Completed Project

The East Tsing Yi Viaduct is an essential connection between Nam Wan Tunnel and Stonecutters Bridge. It is an integral part of the road network development to divert busy traffic between the airport and the city centre.

The joint-venture was mainly responsible for constructing a three-lane dual carriageway, as well as associated works including viaduct ramps, roadworks, drainage, slope works, landscaping and environmental mitigation measures.

Pre-cast box girder segments were predominantly used for the viaduct and were erected using the balanced cantilever method to ensure maximum time efficiency and minimal environmental impact.

In total, 18 pre-cast segmental bridge sections were made from almost 2,000 pre-cast segments and 51 in-situ segments. Advantages of this method included a cleaner site and a faster construction time in this environmentally-sensitive area.
